Always Be Brushing

After fighting an eight year battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Dr. Gary Dean Sellers, DDS, died peacefully in his bed at Willowbrook Place Memory Care, early in the morning on Tuesday, June 6. He was just twenty days shy of his 71st birthday.

Born in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, on June 26, 1952, to Dean and Pauline Sellers, Dr. Sellers’ family moved 18 times throughout his childhood to Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. He went to college at Kansas State Teachers College where he graduated with a degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He then went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Missouri, Kansas City.

A caring and compassionate dentist, Dr. Sellers ran a general dentistry practice in Colorado for 31 years before selling his practice and moving to New Mexico. After he retired, he relocated to Florida where he taught dental students at the LECOM School of Dentistry.

Dr. Sellers will be remembered for his sense of humor, passion for continuous learning, and his love of music. An avid golfer, skier, 3-time marathon runner, scuba diver, writer, and world traveler, Dr. Sellers swam with whale sharks in the Galapagos Islands, wrote a work of fiction about the Oregon Trail, and played golf at St. Andrews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Scot. He is survived by his three children, Dru Sellers of Austin, TX; Jenay (and Jon) Kopf of Denver, CO; and Kylie Sellers of Sarasota, FL, and his siblings, Stacy (and Bob) Wirtz of Des Moines, IA; Shane Sellers of Longton, KS, and Tom (and Patty) Sellers of Salina, KS.

He will be honored by his family and friends in a celebration of life service on August 6, 2023 at Red Rocks Country Club. In lieu of sending flowers or gifts, donations can be made in his memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org).
